Florida MAn found Guilty in Stand Your Ground Case

LARGO — A jury found Michael Drejka guilty of manslaughter late Friday in the 2018 shooting death of Markeis McGlockton in a convenience store parking lot.

The conviction came after 6˝ hours of deliberations by the jury of five men and one woman.

It was read aloud at 10:41 p.m. Drejka stared straight ahead, standing beside his lawyers. He could face up to 30 years in prison.

In the front row of the gallery, McGlockton’s girlfriend, Britany Jacobs threw up her hands and clapped. A woman broke into sobs. McGlockton’s father pressed his elbows into his knees as supporters squeezed his shoulder. His mother embraced family.

Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Joseph Bulone will sentence Drejka at a future hearing. The defendant had been free on bail. But after the verdict, the judge ordered that Drejka be taken into custody and held in the county jail until he learns his fate.

In the hallway, McGlockton’s family hugged prosecutors.

“We’ve had to listen to that defense team talk down your son quite a bit now. No more,” Pinellas-Pasco Assistant State Attorney Fred Schaub said. “Now we’re going to have a sentencing. Y’all have a right to talk. Speak for your son.”

It's strange that the guy had four attorneys. He doesn't look like he could afford them.
    Defense attorneys don't work cheap.

This wasn't a case of "stand your ground", the guy was retreating when he was shot.

I'm not a huge fan of the "stand your ground" law either. Seems there's a certain small segment of the population that believes it's a license to kill.
People who think a movie about plastic dolls is trying to turn their kids gay or trans are now officially known as

    Barbie Q’s

Clearly, this guy was one of them.

Hmm. The guy forcefully shoved him. I don't know how you can get around that? The video clearly shows McGlockton coming out of the store and shoving Drejka to the ground. That's not assault?
    You are wrong about police.

I'd need more details to be able to form an opinion, but assuming the standing man knocked him to the ground I question the verdict.

There was no "fight". The white guy was berating everyone who parked illegally in a handicap parking spot. The dead man came out and attacked the white guy for "dissing" his girl friend and then stood in front of the him. I think this verdict is PC motivated to keep the number of inevitable riots down if he were found innocent.

The victim was not in danger, hell he wasn't even part of the discussion. By interjecting himself into the argument and physically attacking the shooter he showed his violent tendencies. No, the shooter should not have confronted the illegal parker but no one was in any danger until he was attacked. The dead man escalated the confrontation and lost that fight. One must wonder how many other people had he knocked to the ground over trivial matters.
