The NFL has arranged a private workout for free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick in Atlanta this weekend, a person with knowledge of the arrangement confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. The person requested anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly comment on the matter.
ESPN was first to report on the workout.
The league sent a memo to all 32 teams Tuesday inviting them to the workout, which will take place Saturday and include a series of drills on the field as well as an interview. Videos of the workout and interview also will be made available to teams.
The session will be conducted by scouting personnel and will be private.
Several franchises, in part because of a rash of injuries to quarterbacks across the league, have looked into Kaepernick's physical shape. According to the person, Kaepernick's representatives discussed possible steps to ease Kaepernick's return to the NFL. During those meetings, Kaepernick's representatives stressed that Kaepernick is ready to work out and interview for any interested teams.
"I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday," the quarterback tweeted Tuesday night.
