    I think your estimate would be considerably higher if you still owned it.

    Now granted, this is an asking price and not a confirmed sale price, but this will give you some idea of what a game-used bat of someone like Pepitone would likely go for these days.

    And in case you think it's the autograph giving this item its value, it isn't. Joe did paid signings for many years for a nominal price, so it's definitely the bat itself that is so highly collectible.

    There's no way a cracked game bat used by Joe Pepitone would garner 200k. A bat used by Honus Wagner, Lou Gehrig or Babe Ruth might bring that.

    Agreed. I think I originally said that one might go for a couple of thousand; I don't know anyone who would pay or try to sell one for a hundred times that. The last Wagner I saw at auction sold for 75 grand, which is about right.

    Reflecting back, sure I should have not have used that bat for hitting rocks out into the bay. Back then, sports memorabilia collecting wasn't a big deal. I'm sticking with it being worth $50.00 to $100.00 today. It's not like I destroyed a historic relic.
