The Pennsylvania Supreme Court made public one of the broadest-ever investigations into Catholic clerical sex abuse of minors in the United States on Tuesday.

The document, a 1,400-page grand jury report, is the result of an 18-month probe by Pennsylvania state Attorney General Josh Shapiro, and names at least 300 priests accused of child sex abuse by more than 1,000 victims throughout the state.

Some of the priests’ names in the report have been redacted.

The report’s release was delayed after several clergy members named in the report filed legal challenges against its publication.

Shapiro told reporters at a news conference that the report details “systematic coverup by senior church officials in Pennsylvania and at the Vatican.”

Good. Let it all out. Convict them all. The Church became a haven for pedophiliacs in the 50's and 60's. Since the 90's it's rare. Not unheard of but rare. We must remain vigilant. Evil can seep in anywhere.

The research I saw indicated that the incidents of priest abuse were no greater or no worse than the general public, statistically -- it was the moving around and coverups in the 60's and 70's by the complicit hierarchy. (Other faiths covered up, but Catholics make up 20-24% of the public -- the sheer numbers are staggering) The Church has paid dearly (and should) in so many tangible and intangible ways. One of the good things that has come out of this is that we are no longer silent and uninvolved in the running of our parishes.

I had words with the Bishop of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese about 20 years on this issue and he then asked me to get involved in helping to draft the protocol for investigation. One of the current problems is that statistically 50% of the allegations are false.

This kills the good ones. I made it a point to take our Priest to lunch or dinner several times a year just to show him that we appreciate his efforts.

As long as priests cannot marry this is not going to change. It's is incompatible with human nature.

They're all $#@!s. It has nothing to do with the compatibility of celibacy and human nature.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Oh, so all the victims were male?

Yes, actually. The vast majority are in fact male. So are the perps.
