It became politically correct to sign up. The church was a source of educated men, and those were in demand by kings and leaders, who brought their followers into the fold, since it made them more docile.

One thing Christianity did was blend very well with the local cultures, hence the Celtic Cross, Christian Orthodox, Maronite, etc etc.

Orthodox Christianity came about by schism not by "blend." Your sense of history is unorthodox.

Well, it does and it gives us a fair amount of insight but the problem is it covers a very brief period. Paul was martyred in the 60s, for example. At the very least it helps us understand how Christianity established itself.

Yes, but that was a down the line. It was established and had spread first.

That's not the reason. That was a task but not the reason. The Bible ends with the Christians hiding their faith.
