Pearl Harbor ships and subs head to sea ahead of Lane

Pearl Harbor ships and subs head to sea ahead of Lane

The Navy is bugging out of Pearl as Hurricane Lane approaches. Standard operating procedure for the Navy and major storms. Must be a cool site to watch from shore.

Navy ships and submarines based in Hawaii not undergoing maintenance have begun to depart Pearl Harbor as Hurricane Lane bears down on the state, Rear Adm. Brian Fort, commander of Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, announced this morning.

Ships that sortie, or exit the danger area, will be positioned to help respond after the storm, if needed, the Navy said.

“Based on the current track of the storm, we made the decision to begin to sortie the Pearl Harbor-based ships,” Fort said in a release. “This allows the ships enough time to transit safely out of the path of the storm.”

Yes, a grand sight watching that power move out to sea for sure. I used to park at the fence line at Point Magu Naval Air Station just to watch takeoffs and landings. The high decibels of a jet in full afterburner taking off is impressive.

I hope they don have any big ships in dry dock. Cant move those. Not up to date but I don't think any of the CVN's are based there. There are at least two carriers in dry dock for mid life refuel right now, but probably in Newport
