From nathan's link, the company sees it the opposite of its detractors: ""With this combination, CenturyLink is now better positioned to meet the needs of our customers and drive long-term shareholder return," said Jeff Storey, CenturyLink president and chief operating officer. "We have organized and integrated our sales, operations and service teams to meet the specific needs of our customers - from consumers to small businesses to the largest global enterprises in the world. We are continuing to invest to meet the needs of our customers and to provide them with an improved digital experience.""

It's also true as nathan and beevee point out, a tax break is not a handout. It's allows a company to keep more of it's earned income to spend as it sees fit.

Do some ose their jobs. Happens all the time in restructuring.

And if they fail to turn things around they'll go under.

With or without the "tax cut" they would have been laid off. Or do you suggest the company, spending more money then its making, continue paying non productive workers?

    Far out, man!

Keynes was a capitalist, you know. A liberal who thought the state could manage the free market better than it manages itself. The problem is giving the state all that power leads to two things. One, corruption. Two, concentrating "he most wickedest of men" believing they will suddenly do good.

If they were non-productive in the first place, then why were they hired in the first place???

To me it looks like the laid off employees will end up in many cases collecting unemployment insurance and whatever public assistance they are entitled to; all at the expense of our taxpayer dollars. They lose and we lose.

We shouldn't be celebrating over news like this IMO.

Who was celebrating? The company apparently offers a low grade service and has been gong down for a long time. The fault there is management. The employees let go will do what they always do...move on.

Post #9. The poster seems to me to be celebrating due to lower electrical rates; hence my response to him/her.
