Thumbs up The story of American Inventor denied a patent b/c he was a slave

The world of invention is famous for its patent disputes. But what happens when your dispute wasn’t with another inventor but whether the Patent Office saw you as a person at all? In 1864, a blackman
named Benjamin T. Montgomery tried to patent his new propeller for steamboats. The Patent Office said that he wasn’t allowed to patent his invention. All because he was enslaved.

It was a messed up world back then. There were horrible atrocities committed that won't and shouldn't be forgotten.

Imagine the financial loss throughout future generations due to this injustice. Many, many more experienced situations like this.
“Conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future”

That's actually a fair point. If one can actually prove that a King's Ransom was taken from a particular person or family via the state, they should be compensated. I'm not entirely sure that even falls under reparations, as most people, black or white, aren't as capable as this guy was, but that dude in particular and his family got robbed by the state, plain and simple.

There was a time when bad things happened. We've made huge gains since those days. .

I think the worst injustices was the lost of property when it was sold for deflated prices. State Highway 13 from Jacksonville to the St John's County line ran through property owned by many black families. They were either forced to sell or bamboozled into selling on the cheap. Today that property is worth millions, if not billions. These things should not have happened but they did.

Institutional racism was a terrible thing. The government should treat all equally.
