Just watched it on Nat Geo -- a pride of lions took down and killed a huge cape buffalo, the head of the herd.
It wasn't easy for them. Cape buffalo are enormous, very strong and powerful. But these lions got him into a position where they ended up chowing down on him at every available space before he went down, literally eating him piece by chunky piece while he was standing there watching his parts disappear until he no longer had enough muscle left to hold himself up.
I find it heart wrenching when lions eat an antelope alive while it watches them dine.
Big ugly cape buffalo not so much.
Where's evolution in this scenario, do you think?
