More and more companies ditch college degree requirements for jobs

Might be these indocrtinated kids leaving college are lazier and dumber than high school grads

Big companies like Google, Apple, and IBM are no longer requiring applicants to hold a college degree.

This is a significant change. Historically, employers have required a college degree whether or not it was necessary to do the job.

Is this because colleges are no longer teaching the needed skills, or because there are so many job openings to fill that standards are dropping? Could it be that vocational training and self-taught skills are enough for certain jobs in the modern-day economy?

IBM is now looking at candidates with experience in non-traditional education, such as coding boot camps or industry-related vocational classes.

Glassdoor compiled an August list of 15 big companies that no longer require a degree to apply:

College like anything is worth it depending on what the individual does there. If it is four years of SJW training and classes in transgender equality and tribal societal sexual norms then it is a waste. If a student takes time to learn effective communication skills via writing and oral debate, trains their brain to do real analysis either mathematical or logical, comes out with better critical thinking skills and perhaps learns some leadership skills via clubs or Fraternity/Sorority then it is a go.

I am a hiring manager and I tell the HR folks the one trait I want is an Ass Kicking Problem Solver. You can learn that in college if you do the right things there. Much harder to get that from only a HS grad.

I wasted my time in college, I didnt learn a damn thing that I didnt already know or that helped me in my job. I had to get an associates to get longevity bonus pay for my kids.

Plus the Professor during class told some outright lies to the entire class

Two of the bold faced lies were, there are more blacks executed in the US than whites

There is no such thing as Italian Mafia or organized crime.

On both counts he just made that crap up

Part of the blame goes to the students and their families. Far to much deference is paid to these "institutions". Once the students and parents start acting like the customers they are and demanding valuable services then things will change.

Frankly that is all that needs to happen. Until then you get what you are willing to pay for and put up with. Where else does that happen?

For Profit colleges are no different than any other corporation, they cut services, customer service, staff and anything else they can to boost the bottom line.

Education envy is a terrible thing.

To an extent this is a good thing. If you can do the job why require the paper. ?Mind you I want my doctor, therapist , lawyer or teacher to have some education. Possible a little bit less but not much.
I do believe we need to get back to things like apprenticeship programs for trades and maybe a year of co-teaching and a bachelors vs. an M Ed and then you're on your own. Same for counseling. A properly designed BA should be plenty along with the requirements to obtain specific certifications is say drug and alcohol or mental health treatment. Then a year of very close supervision. Obviously not in the session, but processing it afterwards.
It's not that I don't believe in arts and science classes but we could certainly design much more focused bachelors programs that could deliver the same training as some Master's programs. Especially given the prices. If a student did not need to work much there is no reason why they can't do 20 credit hours a semester and turn some of their science labs for example into internships. Limit the non-core courses and get the job done quicker.
