Orlando, Florida – A federal jury found Richard H. Crawford, Jr. (60) guilty of attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity. Crawford faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 26, 2018.
According to the evidence presented at trial, from February 10 to February 28, 2018, Crawford engaged in email and text communications, with a person he believed to be the father of a 12-year-old girl, about the possibility of engaging the child in sexual activity. Crawford agreed to pay between $50 and $75 to engage the girl in oral sex and intercourse. Crawford also indicated that he wanted the child to be nude or wearing something with “easy access” at the time of the meeting

A couple of hundred years ago a 15 year old knew all they needed to know about making a living and raising a family in a farming community, child birth was hard and presumably a little less so for the young ( not this young, but in general) So it made some sense ( again , not at 12)
Today's world is too complex for that, too different from the skills you learn or don't learn growing up.

If true, and it sometimes can be, not exactly parent of the year, eh.

Not long ago, we had one or two members here condoning this type of conduct if the 12 year old girl has started menstruating. They claimed that she then could be considered and adult, so it should be OK.

The only thing keeping me from thinking society has hit rock bottom, is the slim hope this father was only engaging with this pedophile so he could be arrested and didn't really have plans to pimp his daughter.

I don't believe this kind of stuff is new to the current times. We've always had perverts and horrible parents who would exploit their children.
