Toronto has an "alternative" school that is "Africentric" (http://schoolweb.tdsb.on.ca/africentricschool/). I can't remember why or how it came up about 10 years back, but the goal was basically to give kids of color more confidence and more education on some specific things that aren't heavily covered in the regular curriculum. That said, it's open to any student that wishes to study there and not just black students. There are nearly 40 of these alternative schools under the Toronto district school board. Seems to be showing positive results, but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth to think that this was even arranged since it resembles segregation.
