Well, no. Not exactly.
But increasingly, the American left--which was once represented by, say, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer--is gravitating toward democratic socialism, as represented by Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez (the upset winner, recently, in the primary in New York's 15th district) and Andrew Gillum in Florida (who won the Democratic nomination for governor).
I think America--as represented by the Democratic Party, anyway--is becoming much more like continental Europe.
What has our best interest got to do with anything? LOL. If we had acted in our best interest since the first "oil crisis" in 79 or so we'd be non-dependent upon foreign oil and would have waged far less war since then , partly defunding terrorism and limiting their recruitment tools in the process.
Don't buy that National Security was served by our imperialism in the ME it was in fact harmed by it. Our out of control government acted against our interest for decades . Well except for the few, the super rich, and the politicians. Their interest were served.
Why would we allow our adversaries to be able to limit and hinder whatever we do in the ME? Give up control of trade routes?
Yes the US policy got it wrong when they used the model of Identity Politics with the ME. Although I can understand the concept of playing both sides of the field. Ala.....Sunni and Shia. Working both ends to a conflicted middle.
In a world full of Dictators, War Lords, Kings, and Totalitarianism......should a super power project its power?
History does not long Entrust the care of Freedom, to the Weak or Timid!!!!! Dwight D. Eisenhower ~
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
