Is Trump the Dumbest President In US History?

I've always found claims that Trump is the worst president in US history to be premature and silly. I can think of several far worse presidents than Trump.

But I think it is fair to ask if Trump is perhaps the dumbest president in US history. Keep in mind, I'm not saying Trump completely lacks intelligence. Clearly he understands how to deal with people, which is a form of social intelligence. But the same thing can be said about Kim Kardashian.

What I'm really asking is this: Is Trump perhaps the least knowledgeable and astute president in US history? Does Trump actually THINK about anything he does? Or does he just operate on pure emotion and instinct? I think one look at his Twitter history should answer that question.

Trump is, in my way of looking at it, the unexpected President. He's certainly not what the left expected who thought Clinton a shoe in. He's not what anyone really expects of a President--at least in demeanor, as I can understand his cutting taxes and regulations and selection of judges is appealing to the right--forgetting his illiberal protectionism. Other day I listened to comedian--who cares, right?--Norm Macdonald put down cheap president jokes but also talk about how he doesn't think even Trump himself expected to win the election and become President. Thus, the unexpected President. Who's turned the world upsdie down for many.

As for dumb, no, nor do I expect a President to be smart or need to be. Intellectuals are tiresome with their abstractions and untried ideas about how to change society and the world. We need a man, or person, who's down to earth, a common man, the forgotten man.

That's an interesting question. He certainly sticks his foot in his mouth a lot. He makes bonehead mistakes, has generally brought this Mueller thing on himself and then poked the bear the whole time. All of which is stupid in my book. However, he's done some pretty good and bright things - NK, regulations, SCOTUS, taxes, etc.

Maybe he's a stupid politician that has some good policy ideas? Obama was a bright politician with some stupid policy ideas.

Trump is neither down to earth nor common.

Anyway, do you think Trump is the dumbest or not? If not, then who was dumber than him?

The answer to the question posed by the thread title is, "Of course". Hardly a day goes by that some public statement of his own doesn't reinforce that opinion to anyone who is paying attention and being perfectly honest.

Trump is the culmination and fulfillment of that perennial American fantasy of the guy who comes out of nowhere and shakes up the powers that be with his forthrightness and honesty - someone who speaks his mind without regard to political correctness, nuance or diplomacy. To many who took his candidacy seriously, that's what they believed they were supporting. Unfortunately, in Trump's case, what appeared to many people to be forthrightness turned out to be an impulsive need to express his opinion on things he either knows nothing about or doesn't understand...and what they perceived to be honesty has turned out to be an unwavering personal belief that if he says something loudly enough - or Tweets it often enough - it will become reality.

Reagan for starters. Obama for lying and spying. W for pronunciation;Clinton for morality; Carter for lack of ability; Nixon for dishonesty; LBJ for murdering troops.

Trump isn't Presidential and I don't care. He is doing what i want for the most part and that's what he's supposed to do. If you didn't vote for him you can't expect him to suit you.

You're opinion is wrong. He is doing exactly what got him elected. He is doing a better job than Obama ever could have done. Trump has destroyed the Obama legacy and did it without breaking a sweat.

All you liberals keep waiting for him to fall apart when you are the ones getting more and more unhinged. Listen to him in an interview and tell me he's the crazy one.

I didn't say he was down to earth nor common. I said we need someone who is down to earth nor common rather than smart.

I think people who think they are smart are dumb. I probably got that from the parish priest when I was a youngster. He used to rant and rave about smart dummies.

Again, in the face of disagreement, honesty is questioned. It seems to be a convenient way to poison the well for you.

But your answer is loud and clear, you hate Trump. Oh, well.

I don't like him personally either. But I'm not much interested in personal stuff. I agree with some of his policies, I disagree with others.

Exactly. He got elected being who he is, and continues to be that. People were tired of the same old same old.
