All the more reason to use hearing protection. You may never get back what you might have lost but you can keep it from getting worse and to the point you really do have problems. You have quite a few years before you get old so they may have all kinds of ways to repair or even undo any damage you have now.
I have auditory distraction so I use subtitles. Not so much that I can't hear things, but that even small noises that most people wouldn't notice distract me from what I am trying to pay attention to. Makes it impossible to pay attention.
I get pretty irritated but using subtitles helps to keep me from hulking out. Someone chewing with their mouth open, typing too loudly, breathing too loudly, so forth, drives me nuts if I am trying to do something, hear something or watch something. It literally pushes me over the edge occasionally. Whistling? That's the one thing that I really can't deal with, but humming is alright.
If a hearing aid isn't needed these products are good for white noise. I'm totally deaf in my right ear forever and 20% or so deaf in my left ear. Hearing aids were not going to cut white noise so were useless until 10 years ago. Now I have a small mic on the right and a small computer on the left. Works to avoid the white noise.
These new products are worth it if the loss isn't too great. They can cost a lot but what i have cost me $6,000 and may only work for 5 years. I expect more but $300-$500 is a better deal.
