DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – (Scroll Down For Video) — On August 31, 2018, at 4:41 p.m., two deputies initiated a traffic stop after a vehicle made an unsafe turn right in front of them on Highway 85 just North of Delva Way.
The vehicle was occupied by four people, two adult females and two adult males. Upon identifying the driver, it was learned that she was the restrained party listed in a protection order protecting a male who matched the description of the right rear passenger. The two females and one male, who was the front seat passenger, were cooperative with deputies, however, the male in the right rear passenger seat was uncooperative in providing his legal name.

After several attempts to identify Askins deputies asked him to step out of the vehicle. Askins emerged from the vehicle with a pistol pointed at deputies. As he continued to advance out of the vehicle deputies shot Askins multiple times, fatally wounding him.
