While I don't agree with all of your politics, you're a good person who would mean well for the country, which means if you gained any significant traction, the psychopaths and sociopaths in Congress and their even more depraved financiers would do everything in their power to ruin your life.

Traditionally, those who aspire to become political leaders, would start by doing things like getting a law degree, volunteering for political parties, running for lower offices, etc...working your way up and learning about how politics works. However, these days it seems some prefer people without that knowledge or track record. Some would rather vote for personalities and rhetoric rather than experience and qualifications.
If our political leaders meant well, we wouldn't have wars for profit, and they wouldn't do the bidding of banks, the Military Industrial Complex, Big Pharma, the Insurance industry, big oil, Israel, etc, at the expense of the population.

Start out in local politics, and maybe stay there. The National Stage is littered with CROOKS, LIARS and TRAITORS. Join enviro movements, and build a following there. But beware, there are corrupt dealings with many of them.

Beware of parties! The Green Party is used by Rethugs to split liberal Demo votes, eg. Ralph Nader and the KOCH crooks are vested in many movements not healthy for us!

Go for it. Just remember who the voters are. it;s not likely that you can win as a Green or independent.

To be honest you could run as a Democrat and still be true to what you are. As a Republican. you'd be whipped.

Clearly I need to think this through a little more. I think one of the hardest parts for me, policy wise, would be to have to focus on multiple issues, issues that I may not be very passionate about.

Yes. You would be crazy. It's a pit of vipers. But why not contact your local GP office and see what you can do to help? If it turns into a run great , but you should study the snake pit before trying to jump in.
