I lived in New Hampshire for a while and skied in Vermont.
Vermont is kind of... hippie, laid back, cute and all that. Typical NE weather, winter, mud season and 4th of July.
I could live there probably.

I've been to Vermont numerous occasions; it's typical New England state; most people are very friendly and outgoing plus there is a lot of American history there and things to do. It's mostly a rural state.
I live 10 minutes from the northern Ct border; it likewise is a nice part of Ct to live in; again with a lot of American history there as well and ton's of interesting things to do.
I plan on moving to Vermont in a few years if things work out for me; Ct or Western Mass would be second choices for me as well.

I stopped fearing change a while ago, it's not that bad.

I'll just avoid political conversations. It will be fine.
Truly I'm really only concerned about how intrusive their homeschooling laws are. The rest I'm kinda relaxed about.

New England is a different country in a lot of ways.
