Before they worked out some of the kinks in the system, the self check-outs were annoying. Now though, even with a full cart, I avoid the cashiers. I'm faster than they are, and the conversation is much better.

I loathe Wal Mart. I generally refuse to go there. I hate what its done to local businesses. Anyways, on Saturdays around 6:15 am I usually find myself leaving Brueggers and heading to the office. If I need something for the office I can go to Wal Mart to get it b/c it's the only store open then. Last Saturday we needed detergent for the dishwasher and paper towels. I walked in got what I needed. I went to check out. There was nobody at the attended cashier but there were four (4) attendants at the self-check out. I politely asked if anyone could check me out and they stated that the attended check out was closed and the only check out that was open was the self-check out. I asked: "Why?". They stared. I said: "Seriously, you four are standing here, can't one of you check us out?"

I self-checked myself out.

That was exactly my point, they are trying to force people into using self checkouts. Screw them I refuse and I rarely go to walmart anymore.

Like common, I refuse to use self checkout. I am not a store employee. Why should I do their work in addition to purchasing their products?

Fortunately, it hasn't happened yet, but I know that if I went to a checkout line and a human refused to serve me and told me to use self checkout, he would end up restocking everything I had in my cart because I would leave it and go find another store.

A friend was in line with a full cart of groceries, he had frozen stuff ice cream etc. They had two cashiers open and 1 was 10 items or less. He said to the front end woman, theres 2 girls over in self checkout can you have them open a lane, she said I cant its scheduled that way by corporate. He said well then take this and he turned the cart around so the handle faced her and walked out of the store and said, he will never go back

I never shop at Walmart, but the grocery and drug stores that I do shop at all have self-checkout. If I have only a few items and the lineups for the cashiers are long, I will use the self-checkout. They don't seem amenable to a full cart of groceries - not enough space and vegetables would be a challenge because some of them don't have barcodes. The self-checkout machines are getting a lot more user-friendly.

Walmarts the only grocery store that has self checkout here. We have Publix and Winn dixie, both of those stores have benefitted from walmart policies.

Got news for you country, ANYTHING they sell in walmart you can buy online cheaper and get it delivered to your door included.
