That's certainly an issue I agree with Trump on. The other member countries of the UN and particularly NATO, should be paying their fair share. Canada included. While I'm socially liberal, I think Canada should spend more on defence and contribute more to NATO.

I think many saw it just easier for the US to pay more because it is the wealthiest nation and it does spend more on defence than any other nation by a huge margin.

Well, there are other adults present. Sure there are nutso nations, but there is also Canada, the European nations and other select nations.

    Dear UN Organization,

You cannot order tinhorn dictators from starving their peoples. You cannot prevent two bit murderers from going on wholesale killing sprees. You cannot help on Israeli Peace, you cannot influence ISIS, you cannot prevent civil strife across the ME, you cannot stop the squabble between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.....and yer gonna 'order' the US to end sanctions?

Yer about useless, and stupid. Bugger off.

Canada has little to no influence. That’s not a slam, it's just the way it is.

I disagree. Canada is small in comparison to the US, but it is well respected among the international community.

Canada is also a giant in the energy sector and is important to the US and other nations. It's also the US's closest ally and an important partner in NATO and our mutual defence. Canada has also contributed to peacekeeping and were instrumental in developing the very concept of peacekeeping.

Canada understands it's not a major nation. Our population is only 36 million. We are however more respected and influential than you might think.

I will remind the forum that Canadian infantry was engaging the enemy in Afghanistan- to include bayonet charges while US troops were on their FOBs.

Our military is tiny in comparison to the US, but they are well trained and tenacious. While we sat out Iraq and Vietnam, we have a long and mostly proud military history.

I personally would like to increase our military spending and be less reliant on our allies. Particularly because of our enormous geographical size. Our sovereignty in the north will become an issue in the future. I'd like to see a larger navy and a much lager airforce.

Yes, as the Arctic becomes more and more contested Canada is going to have to step up.
