To your first point: some of the data about boys and young men is contained in the above articles themselves, which you could've bothered to read before responding. More, of course, can be found via Google. In this country, for example, girls are about twice as likely as boys to tell surveyors that they have been diagnosed with depression according to our most current data and the rate of such diagnoses has also risen twice as fast for girls over the last decade as it has for boys.

As to the second point, I believe I pointed out that in the OP that the internet itself doesn't seem to be the issue. Boys who spend five hours a day or more online are only half as likely to experience psychological distress as girls who do the same are. That's not an internet problem; that's a problem of how differently society treats girls compared to boys. Also, as the Globe and Mail highlights about the Ontario-based survey, some online activity actually helps girls. More evidence that the internet itself isn't the problem.

It's a fact that females are two to four times as likely as males to attempt suicide. Data showing this. And here's more data. And here's still more. Just as examples illustrating my point on that.

But let's get more specific to the group the OP is discussing: this is also true specifically among not just women overall, but also, and in a more pronounced way, among girls, including American girls.

And yes, the rate of depression is also much higher among American girls specifically than it is among their male counterparts (about 2.5 times as high, specifically), and is rising faster as well.

First of all, you replied before I finished editing, so I have more data links in my last post now than when you responded. Secondly, you're not exactly quoting (or necessarily reading, IMO) the material in its entirety. All the linked references contain pertinent information.

Attempted, not commited. There, men still take the prize. And among girls. The reason seems to be associated with distressful time spend on the Internet rather than playing with friends.

I did say "attempt". Anyway, the question of what is causing this growing misery is what this thread exists to discuss. I have supplied my opinion, based on what girls and young women themselves say in these surveys, already in the OP and therein proposed some general types of things that I hope we might do to alter the present course in a more positive direction.
