McCarthyism is very much an example of language and practices that not only became politically incorrect but where freedom of political expression and ideology became subject to legal sanctions.

The term does not carry an implicit requirement that it be used by leftists to protect some members of the left from the right. The term dates back to the 1920's in terms of Communists literally toeing the party line. The right seized upon the term as a pejorative to describe the excessive protection of certain less advantaged members of society. The right does not "own" the expression and has chosen to use it opportunistically, but not necessarily accurately. McCarthyism literally underscored the necessity of being politically correct or face legal and/or economic sanctions until it was declared unconstitutional.
McCarthy was brought down from the right not from the left. Your argument doesn't hold water. What McCarthy did was go on a personal witch hunt. It wasn't PC at all. It was political expediency.

CPR is neither kind not gentle. It is done brusquely. Want to try again?

Gamergate was important? I never heard of it so I don't know how important it was. This is getting ridiculous. A game.

That is what PC is about. You want to control the way people talk and post based on your hurt feelings (discomfort) that an opinion or idea was rejected (brusquely).
