I was actually surprised. Not so much that she sees as the root of female misery the feminist movement but that she then turned to a lament for the loss of traditional extended families as a source of solidarity and solace for women and men. She should read some Nisbet and his concern for loss of community.

I'm not. She is just kind of old school, so to speak. Was she always that way? That I don't know. I don't know enough about her but I do know the old left was oriented toward the working class and their values. That's what she sounds like to me.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Ah serious stuff, that's the tough stuff. Paglia imagines a past that never was or maybe was in some small way and in that small way she finds an explanation for her current mental turmoil. We lost the solution, we lost our way, isn't that a common human belief, things were always better in the past. [maga] You surely know about that Garden of Eden myth, seems it all started there. Of course that is only for a certain segment of humanity.

But my unconscious mind often works some odd magic and a thought occurred to me from a scene in a movie after commenting on this thread. The scene is a college in Montreal and a shooter and his words on how he hates feminists. Why would you hate feminists and not bad weather. Hm, any thoughts? Could it be you/we are taught to hate? This led me back to the thread on 'the left' ruining a good thing. Seems some need enemies to blame. I may comment there as well later, but some food for thought below. And if the food doesn't inspire questions a hint is in the last link.

So you're saying the past Paglia speaks of never existed. Women have always had equal rights. There never was such a thing as an extended family.

She's not explaining her mental turmoil but that shared by many women, those she's met. And Polly reports the same misery among young women.

As if we needed any more evidence that midcan doesn't actually read or listen to what she supposedly objects to.

Everyone laughs at you. Just not for the reasons you think.
