Couple shoots their dog to kill it because they couldn't afford it.

Several shots with a BB gun didn't put the dog down, and they then took it to the vet. But the vet called the cops, and now the couple is charged with animal cruelty.

I side with the couple if this story is as stated. I don't think it's anyone else's business, let alone the authorities.

Why not just surrender the pet to a rescue?
When Donald Trump said to protest “peacefully”, he meant violence.

When he told protesters to “go home”, he meant stay for an insurrection.

And when he told Brad Raffensperger to implement “whatever the correct legal remedy is”, he meant fraud.

    War is peace.

    Freedom is slavery.

    Ignorance is strength.

That would spare them a criminal record if the charges aren't dropped. Frankly, I don't think it's anyone else's business if someone makes stupid decisions either, and that's simply because a whole new agency thing might come in to make your decisions for you lest you do something stupid.

    IMHO.

First they should be charged under the state's animal cruelty laws. People do not have the right to abuse their pets. Second, they need a mental evaluation: they decided killing the dog was the best option, and they actually believed the pellet gun would work.

They tried to put a Border Collie down with a BB Pistol? The sad thing is the court can prevent them from owning dogs but not from having children

I believe you should be able to put your pet down for humane reasons without the cost of a vet. I knew at least one ole boy the loved his dog so much he felt it was his duty to do it.
However, he used a real gun! Is there a possibility these folks are mentally compromised?

I agree with your first statement so long as you do it in a "humane" manner. I have put down wild animals that were injured in big storms and hurricanes.

It actually sounds to me exactly like what some people (who probably aren't rocket scientists to begin with) might think of doing while under the influence of drugs.
