Enbridge Pipeline Explosion Forces First Nations Community to Flee

A 36-inch natural gas transmission pipeline owned and operated by Enbridge exploded around 5:45 p.m. in rural land north of Prince George, British Columbia on Tuesday, the Canadian pipeline company said in a media release. The blast forced 100 people to evacuate from the nearby Lheidli T'enneh First Nation as a precaution, Enbridge said. "I was able to see it very clearly from the hill," Prince George resident Dhruv Desai commented to the Canadian Press. "It was huge even from this distance."

There are no reports of injuries as a result of the blast and most residents have been allowed to return home. The line has been shut down and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident, the company said.

No Garbage, Recycling Today Due To Gas Pipeline Rupture

SEATTLE, WA - Waste Management has suspended garbage and recycling service Thursday across much of King and Snohomish counties. That's due to the rupture of a natural gas pipeline in British Columbia - Waste Management's trucks run on natural gas.

Businesses and residents across Western Washington are being asked to conserve energy due to the rupture. Puget Sound Energy has asked customers to turn down the heat and limit use of hot water.

The pipeline ruptured Tuesday night near the city of Prince George, about 500 miles north of Vancouver. No one was injured, but a First Nations community nearby was forced to leave the area.

How many pipeline explosions were there in 2017? I know that there were a lot of gas leaks.

Just one of the many reasons we need to utilize All forms of available energy, and use common sense in prioritizing their use.

I bet those union workers at WM will still get their full pay, anyhow.

I had put some links in the "are we becoming the new china" thread. Hey google it there were a lot, it is pretty surprising actually. I wonder what is the cause of it. In the last few years there have been a lot. Not long ago there was that really huge one that leveled homes all over town. But just before that one like the day before I had seen another one on the news. But it disappeared, don't know where that story went. But there are quite a bit. Yeah I don't know the numbers though. I only investigated so far. It is worth taking a look at though.

Likely caused by poor maintenance. Currently nanobots are being tested for several applications in the energy industry to include searching for maintenance issues and perhaps later actually fixing problems.

I'm pretty sure WM uses diesel here

Yeah maybe our failing infrastructure. But I was wondering though if it could be something else like what I am not sure. There could be a lot of things. Like over pressuring the system, or like the BC one it it thought that gas was not flowing for a while and the fumes built up. I suppose there could be all manner of reasons. I also wondered about the additives or even the refining process. Just wondering if we were doing something different. Things like this just get my gears turning.

The information I could find says about 50 a year. Some were really bad and some weren't. 17 people a year die from pipeline explosions. There are not enough people checking these lines for leaks. That's not excusable.

I'm not big on conspiracies. The lines get old or they get a leak or some other explainable reason. Stuff happens. More checking is one answer.

I think some companies do a cost benefit analysis and conclude it is cheaper to pay for the rare accidents than to properly inspect and maintain all of their lines.
