The range is based on which generation had the American Indian. The test narrowed it to between the 6th and 10th generation.

What I'm saying is that most every American who's family has been here for several generations more than likely has some amount of "Native American" ancestry.



That doesn't make one a legitamate "Native American" as the term is defined today.

My family didn't get here until the early 1890s.

And yes, having some American Indian DNA doesn't mean any tribe has or will accept you.

That's the era my grandfathers were born. There are many people who's American ancestory goes back much farther than that.

There is very little North American Indian DNA to use to test others- tribes encourage their members to not participate in DNA testing (oddly some tribes have used DNA testing to kick members out).


The test used DNA samples from South America assuming they were close enough to North American Indians.

The study failed to mention the Cherokee tribe- they require you have to have a family member in their 1907 registry to being the qualification process.

The Dawes Roll was only for the Cherokee who were removed to Oklahoma. The eastern Cherokee were in the Baker Roll of 1924-29.
