Big Fan of the Ignore Feature

Within the past week, I finally decided to give the ignore feature a try. For years, I refrained from using it because I thought that ignoring other posters was a sort of retreat from debate and discussion. I also thought that if I wanted to ignore them, then I could just ignore them. The problem with this thinking is that some posters simply aren't interested in debating and discussing. They come to a forum like this in order to shove their views down the other person's throat and to stroke their fragile egos. Therefore, refusing to address such characters is not retreating from debate and discussion as there is no possibility of such. Secondly, it's hard to ignore someone when they are posting 40, 50, 60 times a day, every day, for years on end. Sometimes, in order to ignore these people, you have to scroll past entire pages of posts. This is a giant waste of time and becomes tiresome. With the ignore feature, their posts are condensed down to almost nothing which makes it very easy to scroll right past them. After using this feature, I find that the forum is easier to navigate and participate on. If you have reservations about using the ignore feature, then I would recommend reconsidering.

I've never used it, myself. To be honest, I'm not sure that I really get involved in enough threads to make it worthwhile - or necessary. As you say, however, there are members who have no interest in an honest discussion, and others who just like to puff out their chests and spit in your eye for no good reason other than they can get away with it; it might, to some extent, seem like a different, better forum with those people on Ignore.

It does seem like a different forum, one without all the aggressive stupidity.

Does the man behind the curtain mind if we ignore this thread? Everyone knows Mr. Oz is a fraud anyway.

He should ignore more people. He can't handle most of them. I would never take the chicken-$#@! way out. I know I'm on his list and for good reason.

At least he won't be complaining to the Mods so much.

AMEN! Hey this is in line with what I have been trying to get people to do. So much better and more mature than endless reporting to the Mods!

Ignoring a trouble maker either formally or informally and reports to mods are the preferred methods on the forum. Picking one method is fine too.
