Identity politics may be an element of Marxism, but not exclusively. For me, when the author makes such a leap, he is engaging in hyperbole. I don't know that it's advisable to use hyperbole when criticizing hyperbole. In the end, he ends up sounding as silly as the person he's criticizing.

He's not saying it's an element of Marxism. These people would have been laughed out of the room by the Old left.

I agree with the point about the movie guy, but your article is guilty of the same kinda thing, and you yourself are the local king of "intellectual BS" so I see this whole thing as an exercise in hypocrisy.
