There is absolutely no way SS can be eliminated at one fell swoop. If it were phased out that is a different issue entirely. Social Security should at the very least return to its original purpose, acting as a retirement account for those paying into it. It was meant as a safety net. Now, it takes so much from your income it all but eliminates the ability to save by other means. Furthermore, it pays people who never paid a penny into the system, it was never envisioned to do that.
If the law was you could either put that amount of money into a savings account of your choice or let the government steal it from you you would have a far greater amount of money in savings than what you can now reasonably expect. Furthermore, if it were truly your money you could leave it to your heirs and assigns. Now when I die my wife gets a pittance of my SS, although she has paid into the system for over 50 years. Thank God we were prudent people and have a substantial savings and retirement account in place.
For those currently living off Social Security to be afraid the Republicans are going to throw them in the street is nothing more than scare tactics by the lying, corrupt, stealing disgusting Democrats.
Well spoken.
