Ruth Bader Ginsburg breaks ribs in fall

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been hospitalized after breaking several ribs after falling in her court office on Wednesday.

“She went home, but after experiencing discomfort overnight, went to George Washington University Hospital early this morning,” the court said in a statement. “Tests showed that she fractured three ribs on her left side and she was admitted for observation and treatment.”

The 85-year-old Ginsburg, nominated by former President Clinton in 1993, is among the most liberal justices on the court, which is now split 5-4 in favor of conservatives after President Trump named Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch.

Ginsburg, who is the subject of a documentary “RGB” and a new film “On the Basis of Sex,” said in an interview in July that she would like to stay on the court until she turns 90.

“I’m now 85,” she told CNN. “My senior colleague, Justice John Paul Stevens, he stepped down when he was 90, so I think I have about at least five more years.”

SCOTUS Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg fractures Ribs

    *Breaking*

Justice Ginsburg hospitalized after fracturing ribs in fall

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/08/polit...zed/index.html

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractured three ribs after falling in her Supreme Court office Wednesday night, the Supreme Court said in a statement.

According to the statement, Ginsburg, 85, experienced discomfort after going home following the fall and was admitted to George Washington University Thursday morning for observation and treatment.

As one of the court's older members, Ginsburg's health has become the subject of much attention in recent years.

In November 2014, she underwent a heart procedure to have a stent placed in her right coronary artery, and in 2009, she was treated for early stages of pancreatic cancer.

In 1999, just six years after being sworn in as an associate justice, Ginsburg successfully underwent surgery to treat colon cancer.

Ginsburg, who became the second woman to serve on the high court following her appointment by President Bill Clinton in 1993, has become a progressive and pop culture icon.

Admirers have recently nicknamed her "Notorious RBG," a play on the late rapper Notorious B.I.G., and have hailed her as a bulwark against conservative ideology because of her liberal opinions and dissents.

In particular, Ginsburg is seen by progressives as a bulwark against President Donald Trump, whom she criticized in 2016, calling him a "faker."

She later expressed regret over the remarks.

Shame, while I don't always agree with her, I like her. 25 years on the court. Just wrote the opinion on ADEA. She'll be back. But Trump has the advantage of time right now.

    She needs to retire.

It is never good to grow old, as long as she can perform her duties I think she has the right to stay. The one thing I always think about not only with SCOTUS but in our Congress as well. Many people work so long that they retire and die shortly after. I plan on working not one day more than I have to I want to enjoy my retirement. I hope these aged people are living their lives not living to work. Life is short I want to make it as long as I can and enjoy it as much as I can.

Truly hope she fully recovers, If she was forced to retire, I can not even fathom how that hearing process would run......

I tend to doubt she does her job.
