Say the government subsidizes some part of the ag industry and say, 6 companies to the tune of $1 billion. Those subidized entities then produce and sell $15 billion in goods, services and produce, which is taxed $2 billion.

I don't know what the figures are, but you see what I'm saying. In other words, it looks like California is shelling out a bundle of money more than federal dollars they're taking in, but it comes from and owes to that original federal money, and wouldn't otherwise be possible.

I believe that states rights are partly born of common sense and therefore the provinces should be involved. However, I don't know whether Ontario has any legal grounds to challenge in Canada. My guess is no.
It is a different political system and different Constitution (specifically sections 91 and 92). No, Ontario can't challenge it. Yes, they can be fined.

    Ford is a joke.

Don't you think it would be in everyone's best interest if Ontario seceded from Canada and joined the US?

Not really. We get what we pay for, which makes up for the fact we pay slightly more in taxes (using OECD numbers). There is also an entirely different culture on some very important issues (guns, health care, federalism, multiculturalism, etc.).

And so ... you think all of that should be studied first for oh say, the next 75 years or so, so we do anything brash?

Despite the federal government's right to do this is it more typical for them to work with the province? Here the federal government has been encroaching into clearly defined state's rights for a century or more.
