I don't disagree with that but docs as a whole live on another planet. The whole "god complex" thing, their version of reality isn't near the norm.

But they can and should do what they feel is necessary. There's no moral or ethical wrongdoing with being proactive with things like this but that the NRA kicks back because that's what they're supposed to do shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Out of 35,416,020 hospitalizations. That's an error rate of 0.0070589524175783.

That's IP and ER I'm guessing, add OP to the mix if that figure includes OP and it gets smaller.

Nearly 1% error rate causing death seems high to me, it's probably smaller.

Not a surprise that the NRA is defending its turf, but if doctors noticed an elevated number of people being killed by some virus, they would demand that it be addressed. How can they simply shrug their shoulders and give gun violence a pass? It's also their turf.

They worry about stabbing victims and those macheted to death and those beaten and braindead from blunt force trauma and OVERDOSES, women raped and strangled and all the myriad of ways people kill and hurt others, add those up and they are 100 fold gun shot victims.

I'm sure that ER is probably driving the number. Overworked docs - not enough sleep, problems with triage...

If it were possible to address the other modes of violence, other than the obvious i.e. support for better mental health care, which they already support, I'm sure that they would. However, unlike those other methods of killing, it's pretty hard for one individual with a sharp object to kill or maim large numbers of people at a time.
