Girl Scouts sue Boy Scouts over new name, "Scouts". Wha ...?

According to a new law suit filed by the Girl Scouts of America, dropping "boy" from Boy Scouts of America to simply "Scouts of America" amounts to infringement on its trademark and has marginalized girls and caused confusion.

The Girl Scouts beef is that Boy Scouts must "have no monopoly over such terms as 'scouts' and 'scouting' when it offers services to girls."

The Boy Scouts are reviewing the suit (probably wondering, like me, WTF is this?)

Agree, of course - it is a silly lawsuit and a total non-starter. Trademark infringement normally involves one entity using words or names in their branding or advertisement - not dropping them. It would be like Krispy Kreme suing Dunkin for dropping the word "Donuts" from their name. If the Scouts wanted to call themselves The Boy and Girl Scouts of America, a lawsuit would probably fly, but that isn't what's happening.

Unfortunately, the reference to "liberals" in the first sentence of your post makes zero sense. Of course there is a tendency for self-identified conservatives to automatically label every silly lawsuit, every dumb governmental action or policy, etc., "liberal" - I get that. Sometimes the application is appropriate - not here.

Frivolous lawsuit. Stuff like this only stands to fatten to pockets of lowlife lawyers. Something needs to be done to put a stop to silly $#@! like this.
