Its gone TOO FAR! Taft-Hartley reversed many of the gains labor had made. Then the Rethuglican Party has chiseled away 'bargaining rights' to where it is just a shell of what it used to be.
And that mirrors the decline of the middle class perfectly! This is a huge part of the Koch Agenda to empower huge corporations at the expense of the electorate!

The Taft-Hartley Act was a slap in the face to anyone who worked; It's like saying you are for motherhood but against children. A lot of what workers died for was lost the day the veto was overridden by Congress. In fairness it should be noted that the Act had strong bi-partisan support.

Think 3rd party for 2024 folks. Clean up America.

Once I tell you that we agree to disagree there will be no more discussion between us in the thread so please don't waste your time continuing to argue your points because I will not respond.

Twaddle: trivial or foolish speech or writing; nonsense. A term that went out of use at least 60 years ago but not as rude or coarse as calling a post BS - yet with the same intent.
In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

There are no good unions. There may have been a hundred years ago, but today, they are no different from any other organized crime organization.

I used to be full flat out Pro Union, grew up that way. Now that has been dulled by things like this.

The average teacher pay in New Jersey is 63,331 yearly
    https://www1.salary.com/NJ/Public-Sc...er-salary.html

The Head of the New Jersey NJEA teachers union makes over 500,000 has a car and an expense acct cadillac health insurance and doesnt work in any school reports to work at Union headquarters. I cant justify that salary or those perks in any way

The Police and Fire union PBA they get whatever salary they would get as an Officer plus a car to use and they dont get an expense acct but they put in chits for when they spend money on union business. Thats a HUGE difference that the teachers union.

I have two daughters teachers in the teachers union and two son in laws in the PBA

I will benefit from representation and also the benefits with the healthcare, pension, and so forth.
So my questions are this: As a Conservative, I believe in rewarding merit. This is one of the key sticking points I've had with unions that value seniority over merit. I believe BOTH should deserve consideration in some way. Also, how does a Conservative reconcile being a union member as they have traditionally favored the opposing political party? I just want to ensure that I won't be "encouraged" to vote a certain way.
Sometimes you have to work a job to get paid to put food in the table - even a union job.

Not all unions are created equal. In states where it is mandatory - they tend to suck. In states where it is optional - they tend to be alright. I believe this is because the force of completion is upon them so they must price their worth to the consumer in question - the members.
