@Mister D - did you make those stuffed cabbages last weekend? Just curious.

Spent several hours today making two plus more roasters full, pot luck meeting with the billing office this week and I'm taking them in.

Nah I got sick on Thursday. We had an unexpected snow storm and it beat the crap out of me. Not sure why but the weather really got to me. I was in no mood for any serious cooking.

That said, I am aiming for next weekend
A lady at work was eating haluka (sp?) andi want to try a lower fat version of that too.

Halushki, heavy egg noodles, butter and kraut - in a crock pot until it turns brown.

Don't $#@! around trying to low-fat it, blasphemy. Take the guilty life's pleasure in the nuts, it's worth it.

Halupki? That's the Ukranian/Russian and a few other Eastern European country's word for cabbage rolls.

They get called a lot of things and they sound similar. I don't thin he means stuffed cabbage since that's the point of topic.

I've heard them called, and I won't spell it right, golumpkis. My mom called them that, stuffed cabbages.

    I'm assuming he meant halushki.

That's it, @Dr. Who it was a noodle dish with shredded cabbage. Cap, it's a actually kraut? I thought it was just fried cabbage.

I'm already thinking of where I can find whole wheat egg noodles. I'm so corrupt!

Golumpki is a version of Gołąbki, the Polish word for stuffed cabbage. ( the 'ł' looks like an 'L' but is pronounced as a 'w' and the 'ą' is pronounced like 'um'.) Meh, easier just to call them cabbage rolls. There are about a dozen related and unrelated words in Eastern Europe for cabbage rolls, but they are all basically the same dish. It certainly could be Haluski - I make a version with sauerkraut instead of cabbage.

I've never seen a whole wheat egg noodle. They might be a bit tough. If you are adventurous, you could get a pasta maker and make your own! There are recipes for Haluski that call for cabbage, kraut or both. I use naturally fermented kraut, but I add mushrooms and a bit of meat for flavor.
