Exactly where in the Bile does it say you have to be married by a priest, elder, chief ... Marriage is saying you are husband and wife as far I can see in scripture.

I love how atheists try to say what the Bible says.

The origins of this prohibition are obscure but it's unlikely to be related to health or disease. Israel's own neighbors ate plenty of pork. In fact, that may very well be part of the reason pork was forbidden.

In setting themselves apart, yes, quite likely, also swine were used primarily for garbage detail. Human waste, food waste all would be consumed by swine.

So, if a couple says, "We are husband and wife", their having sex from that point on is not sinful? Do they both have to say it, and to whom? I'm genuinely interested in your take on this, Cap, because I don't think a lot of Christians would agree with you on this point.

Noting that people have - and have always had - a tendency to attribute their own likes, dislikes, concerns and prejudices to their God (or gods) is not a statement of atheism.

Some people have found that they can gain compliance from their coworkers by saying, "That's the way the boss wants it done", when in fact the boss has expressed no opinion on the matter. That doesn't mean that the boss doesn't exist - just that others have misrepresented his thoughts and preferences for their own advantage.

Not sure about that. It was a useful source of animal protein. Pigs are generally easy to raise but, from what I've read, the sketchiness of the water supply in the Middle East may have led to the gradual disappearance of pork as a staple because pigs require significantly more water than chickens, for example.

I believe the KJV is the Word of God and I don't need to go back to the Greek.

Well, the King James Version of the Bible (translated in 1611) was based upon the Textus Receptus (or Received Text). And it did not include the oldest and best uncial manuscripts (e.g. Codices Sinaiticus and Vaticanus, from the mid-fourth century). Even older, the papyrus fragments (such as those from the Chester Beatty collection) are necessarily excluded.

The newer translations (including--but not limited to--the New American Standard Bible and the New International Version) are far more reliable, it seems to me.

Note: One may, however, get into a rather interesting discussion as to whether a literal, word-for word translation, or a sense-for-sense translation, is better. (I prefer the latter; but that is certainly open for reasonable debate.)
