Shivering horse found waiting out Camp Fire in backyard pool

    At least the horse survived.

A horse was found in the backyard pool of a Paradise, Calif. resident, after the animal apparently tried to find a safe space as the Camp Fire moved through town.

Paradise resident Jeff Hill shared photos of the horse Sunday on Facebook. The photos showed the horse in a pool, but entangled in the pool cover.

"There's no telling how long she was there but she was shivering uncontrollably," Hill wrote. "She was all caught up in the pool cover but her being suspended by it prevented her from drowning."

Hill said he and a friend undid the pool cover, then helped the horse out of the shallow end of the pool.

So, what did they do with him, after they rescued him?

I hope they took him somewhere safe.

The article said the horse was escorted out of the fire zone. Hopefully the owner finds him.

Hmm... escorted out of the fire zone...those people obviously didn't know horses...if they think it will stay out of the fire zone... I hope it'll be ok.

I would hope they removed the horse to a sanctuary or a farm as much as they would take a dog or cat to a safe place. Legally speaking, horses are not permitted to run loose in urban areas because they are potentially dangerous traffic hazards.

I doubt they were thinking along those lines at that time, they just wanted to get it out of the pool.

A horse will run back into a burning barn, because to a horse, the barn symbolizes safety... which is why, I'm not so sure the horse will stay out of the fire zone.

I realize that's where you were going, but assuming that any kind of 'authority' was involved, I would imagine the horse was taken into care somewhere and not released at the side of a highway a few miles away. That would be simply idiotic and irresponsible.

I agree, I hope it was taken to a safe place.

I feel more for the animals, in situations like this... people too, just, the animals more.
