Trump is getting the European army he wanted

Trump is getting the European army he wanted

This is a good thing. Europe should be able to defend itself. Especially as its policies no longer mess with US policy.

Macron’s — and now German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s — desire to build a European army is a reflection that the Continent has woken up to the reality that it needs to stand on its own two feet, instead of relying on the U.S. on security.
Two years after his surprise election, Europeans are starting to take the U.S. president seriously — and literally. They’ve abandoned the hope he would represent a passing fad, or that personal relations would attenuate his policies. Instead, they’ve accepted they need to build a European response.
Macron’s push for a European army fits into this larger effort. With the European election looming on the horizon, the French president wants to prove a united, strong EU can protect its citizens.

Based on Trump's demeanor this past weekend (see pics of Trump and Macron), he's unhappy about the possibility. If they build a European army, they are not going to need NATO. Trump was trying to increase contributions to NATO, not make it redundant, however, I think he went too far between his condemnation for not contributing what he deemed their fair share and embarking on trade sanctions. He created an anti-American sentiment in Europe and even pushed them closer to Russia and their ability to provide oil and gas. Europe no longer wants to be dependent on Middle Eastern oil or American protection.

There has been anti-American sentiment in Europe for 60 years. The liberal regimes will remain close. Europe will veer away from the US when Europeans decide to control their own destiny. That is something most of you on the left fear so you might want to rethink this.

There is never going to be a European Army. The Eastern Members won't go near this. The Brits are never giving a Frenchman authority over an Englishman. This was a knee-jerk reaction that brings a laugh. They won't pay for NATO but will pay for their own Army?

Exactly. Can't afford NATO but can pay for a military to compete with the US? Laughable.
When Donald Trump said to protest “peacefully”, he meant violence.

When he told protesters to “go home”, he meant stay for an insurrection.

And when he told Brad Raffensperger to implement “whatever the correct legal remedy is”, he meant fraud.

    War is peace.

    Freedom is slavery.

    Ignorance is strength.

This European force isn't a new idea. Also it's not intended to replace NATO. It's an augmentation force.

They know that they could not withstand a military confrontation with Russia.
