How do those monsters get between trees that are less than 10 feet apart? That's land clearing equipment not forest maintenance equipment. The back end of those cats is fine, but the front end has to be a crane with jaws to reach in an pull out fallen trees without destroying the living trees and in order to use them, you have to have forestry roads.

In florida they warn you and close roads and highways and have controlled burns.
Florida and dont ask me how they do it, actually set forest fires and burn ALL the underbrush, when they are done, you see charred trees and charred ground but everything between the trees is burned and cleared.
Within two weeks you see low foliage all green between the trees and the process starts again.
They have controlled burns all over florida with the blessing of environmentalists they realize its the safest way to save trees and animals. An uncontrolled fire in florida during drought periods where there is NO rain are horrific and unstoppable.

Forest fires are actually beneficial to forests, so long as the forest goes through these burns on a relatively regular basis. The problem with California is extended drought and residential neighborhoods that are built far too close to forests. Municipalities become more concerned with tax revenues than the downside of forest fires, which will soon be followed by mudslides after the rains come. People just love having their inflammable homes nestled into the forested hills.

I'm not arguing against clearing out the fallen trees or forestry roads for that matter. I just couldn't see those wide rakes working in a forest. I don't approve of building too close to forests - I work in claims. Building too close to forests or on floodplains is a recipe for disaster.
