In florida they warn you and close roads and highways and have controlled burns.

Florida and dont ask me how they do it, actually set forest fires and burn ALL the underbrush, when they are done, you see charred trees and charred ground but everything between the trees is burned and cleared.

Within two weeks you see low foliage all green between the trees and the process starts again.

They have controlled burns all over florida with the blessing of environmentalists they realize its the safest way to save trees and animals. An uncontrolled fire in florida during drought periods where there is NO rain are horrific and unstoppable.

Military instillations in the East do that as well. If you keep the undergrowth under control, a controlled burn won't get hot enough to set the old trees on fire.

Forest fires are actually beneficial to forests, so long as the forest goes through these burns on a relatively regular basis. The problem with California is extended drought and residential neighborhoods that are built far too close to forests. Municipalities become more concerned with tax revenues than the downside of forest fires, which will soon be followed by mudslides after the rains come. People just love having their inflammable homes nestled into the forested hills.

Yes, Cat named their equipment wrong. So misleading, those tricksters.

You know what's cool? Hydraulics, pneumatics and robots.

    Forestry roads! How horrifying.

Better to let the whole thing burn, I guess.

I'm not arguing against clearing out the fallen trees or forestry roads for that matter. I just couldn't see those wide rakes working in a forest. I don't approve of building too close to forests - I work in claims. Building too close to forests or on floodplains is a recipe for disaster.

Trees close to buildings can be harvested for any number of uses.

People would be quite surprised to know how wide the berm between buildings and forests should be. Embers from a forest fire can travel up to a mile on the wind.
