Targeting rule

I'm watching the Colorado vs Utah game. The Colorado QB was hit just as he released the ball. The hit was not a late hit. It was a clean hit. There was no helmet to helmet contact. The defender did not drive the QB into the ground nor did he land on him with his entire body weight. The tackler did not leave his feet and launch himself into the QB.

The tackle was a picture perfect tackle. The tackle was executed exactly the way they want people to tackle. Still, the defensive player was penalized and ejected from the game for Targeting.


This targeting nonsense is out of control. It's absurd.

I just watched the Washington / Oregon State game. Washington’s QB took a brutal hit where he was hit a bit late and needlessly driven into the turf and there was no call.

As much as I hate TSUN, (and disfavor Edwards because his brother was a bust for the Browns), that was a brutal hit that was clear targeting. I hope Edwards is ok for Saturday’s OSU game.

How would that help when a penalized player is ejected from the game? Eventually they will institute a rule that a QB can not be touched unless he runs the ball.

Every week I see completely ridiculous targeting penalties. It's worse this year than it was last year
