Simple question: How was it she was going so fast?

... 18 November 2018, [Sophia] Flörsch participated in the Formula 3 World Cup at the 2018 Macau Grand Prix. During the main race, on Lap 4, she made contact with fellow driver Jehan Daruvala, who was reportedly slowing for erroneously-displayed yellow flags on the straight between Mandarin Corner, Turn 3 (T3 on map below) and Lisboa Bend, Turn 4 (T4 below). This caused her car to spin round out of control, catapulting her into Lisboa Bend at high speed, launching off Sho Tsuboi's car and through the catch-fencing in the process. Flörsch was reported as conscious post-crash and was hospitalised along with Tsuboi, two photographers and a marshal. She was later diagnosed with a spinal fracture, for which she underwent surgery the following day. -- Wikipedia.

Her car was traveling at over 171 mph. https://www.autosport.com/f3/news/14...d-florsch-life

Seventeen year-old Flörsch was reportedly texting within minutes of the crash.

I think because her car slammed into the obstacles traveling backwards rear end first, that spared her life since the crushing blow was absorbed by the back of her car and the crash-resistant tub she rides in (I think they ride in a tub), providing a lot of shock absorption.

But she had to have lost control way before that.

I should have posted between T2 and T3, a much longer stretch of straight-away than between T3 and T4. That answers my question.

One can't tell looking at the big screen included in that video just how fast they're going coming down to that corner, but of course they decelerate and accelerate very quickly. So it makes more sense intuitively that it was possible, anyway.

    Never mind. Incredible crash anyway.

I don't know but seeing a race car turn right was different

Awesome testament to the Formula cars and carbon fiber.
It's ok if you disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.
