Three U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan blast

Three U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan blast

There US servicemen were killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan in a region where US SoF is operating against the Taliban.

Three U.S. service members were killed and three wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated on Tuesday near the central Afghan city of Ghazni, the NATO-led Resolute Support mission said in a statement.

The Taliban, which control large parts of Ghazni province, claimed responsibility for the attack, which also wounded an American civilian contractor.

The NATO statement gave no details but Mohammad Arif Noori, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said an armored vehicle carrying U.S. troops hit a large roadside bomb in Shahbaz area, just outside the city on Tuesday morning.

This is never going to end. There is no hope that nation will ever change. I don't want to see even one more US soldier lose his life for this lost cause. It's time to end this drill in futility. It has been for years.

I would not call Afghanistan a nation since it really has no common culture or cause. It is a bunch of tribes. Legally it is a state.

We should have left already. Without the costs of being there and pumping money into that money pit, we could conduct punitive raids at will to destroy terrorist training camps, at a fraction of the costs we pay today. Refer back to Operation Jaw Breaker.

Call it whatever you want. We should leave. It's not worth one more American life.

Update: names of Soldiers killed are released.

The Pentagon identified on Wednesday three U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan a day earlier as two Special Forces soldiers and a special tactics airman who was assigned to work alongside the Army.

Army Capt. Andrew Ross, 29, and Army Sgt. 1st Class Eric Emond, 39, were members of the 3rd Special Forces Group, the Pentagon said in a statement. They were killed along with Air Force Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin, 25, a combat controller whose job included directing aircraft overhead to support soldiers on the ground.

The deaths bring the number of U.S. troops killed in combat in Afghanistan this year to 13, drawing new attention to the longest war in American history.
