    Populism right / left

This is an interesting study approach to the idea of populism. I found many questions raised qualifications in my mind. Where you place yourself along a continuum can be puzzling sometimes. As many posters know me by now, my location on the chart will not surprise. I 'lean populist left', only lean, some may disagree. Have fun.

"Based on your responses to the previous questions, you got a score of 16, where 4 is the least populist and 28 is the most populist. In a few moments, we'll show you how other people have scored so far on this measure of populism."

"In our other research, we find that thinking about groups and individuals rather than impersonal circumstances prompts people to express more populist ideas and be more supportive of populist politicians."

    Non-populist right, Merkel.

Far as I'm concerned Sanders and Trump are populists.

I recently read this piece on populism, wasn't real sure what to make of it, but I'll toss it out, WHAT IS POPULISM?

Le monde, the French newspaper of record, admitted last summer that readers had been complaining about the indiscriminate way its journalists flung around the word “populist.” It seemed to describe dozens of European and American political actors with nothing in common except the contempt in which Le Monde held them. The meaning of “populist” was nonetheless easy to decode. A dispatch in that same edition of Le Monde, about a new political alliance between populist governments in Italy, Austria, and Hungary, was titled: “Europe’s hard right lays down the law against migrants.” To call someone a populist is to insinuate that he is a fascist, but tentatively enough to spare the accuser the responsibility of supplying proof. If one sees things as Le Monde does, this is a good thing: populism is an extremism-in-embryo that needs to be named in order that it might better be fought. Others, though, will see populism as an invention of the very establishmentarians who claim to be fighting it, an empty word that allows them to shut down with taboos any political idea that they cannot defeat with arguments. In Europe, populism is becoming the great which-side-are-you-on question of our time....

Yes, the word is misused, context is required.

That was my score on the populist test. So a bit to the right, and a bit down from center.

Rather, it has different meanings in different contexts.

As for the test, I think some questions are definitive, answer yes, your populist, no, not, while other questions presume that certain stances on issues are populist or not to where you might agree with the stance but for non-populist reasons, like "Renewable energy" or "Pollution control." This question is one that is loaded: "The power of a few special interests prevents our country from making progress."
