    Patagonia's $10,000,000 tax cut donated.

So I just read that Patagonia is taking it's entire $10M tax break from 2017, and donating it to environmental causes. I honestly don't know what I think about this, on the one hand, as a manufacturer of outdoor gear, this makes a modicum of sense, but at the same time, what about bonuses for employees? I think they should do both...

    What say you?

Its workers already get paid for what they do, right?

Patagonia, like a lot of other companies, was really good until they became "fashionable". The company started out as an offshoot of the Great Pacific Iron Works and focused on clothing for ice climbers, expedition climbers, etcetera.

Then, they got popular and that was pretty much that.

I don't know, but assume Patagonia is a publicly traded company. If so, shareholders can sue them: the Board has a fiduciary duty to shareholders to maximize profits. Where are the dividends?

BR makes decent casual clothing- you just pay extra for the name.

For travel I go to REI (as did the CIA SAG team for Operation Jaw Breaker) or order from clothing arts dot com for pick-pocket proof clothing.

BR used to be geared toward the adventure traveler. For a long time a big part of my wardrobe came from BR. Then they got bought by The Gap and everything went to $#@!. It may still be decent quality, but the brand lost its soul.

I have been a member of the co op since the mid 1970s. I remember when their catalog was maybe 4 pages and it was mostly hardware, rucks, ice axes, crampons, ropes...

I don't even look at it anymore.

Patagonia is a great company that makes great products.

They also have a great warranty program. No matter how old the product, if it's broken or has failed, they'll repair or replace it.

    Patagonia is a "Benefit Corporation".
