Naval Academy midshipman pleads guilty to distributing drugs

Naval Academy midshipman pleads guilty to distributing drugs

A midshipman got 13 months in prison for distributing drugs, 6 other midshipmen got expelled from the Naval Academy, and 5 others were disciplined for "other violations." I expect that is knowing what happened and not reporting it. Yes that is a rule at each of our service academies.

The charges were based on an investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service that began in November 2017. Some of the charges related to Williams’ arrest by the Dover, Delaware, Police Department for selling and possessing controlled substances at a music festival in June.

As a result of the investigation, six midshipmen were kicked out of the academy for using illegal substances, and five were disciplined for other policy violations.

Yes. You would think that people admitted to a service academy would know them and respect them. It is very hard to get in.

Losing a quality university education and an officer's commission over recreational drugs? I think most of us can point to something we did when younger that was, in retrospect, really stupid - maybe something that lost us something of value or ruined an opportunity - but this story...wow. Almost as bad as the professional athlete who loses a multi-million dollar contract by acting the fool. I remember a Yankees outfielder, years ago, who was cut from the team and forfeited his million dollar salary because he stole one of Derek Jeter's fielding gloves out of the locker room and sold it to a memorabilia dealer for $2500. That's just the definition of going "full retard".

I went on active duty with the Navy when I was a week shy of my 19th. The previous summer, my father offered me a two-week solo vacation in Hawaii, all expenses paid, and all I had to do was cut my hair. Guess who was too rebellious and "principled" to bow to The Man...and didn't go to Hawaii? Six months later I was off to Boot Camp and there went the hair anyway. Sometimes you just want to be able to go back in time and ask your younger self, "What the hell are you thinking?"

If you had cut your hair for your father you would have seen Hawaii. Cutting your hair for the Navy I will bet allowed you to see far more than just Hawaii.
