The US population is not metabolically healthy.

The prevalence of what doctors consider good metabolic health is shockingly low in American adults, a new study finds.

Researchers from the University of North Carolina’s Gillings School of Global Public Health say that just 12 percent of the country’s adult population is considered metabolically healthy. That means a vast portion of the population is at greater risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, or other dangerous health conditions over time.


The five factors identified as indicators of good or bad metabolic health are: blood glucose, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, blood pressure, and waist circumference. If adults can maintain optimal levels of these indicators without medication, they are deemed metabolically healthy.

I agree as well. I had too much bad cholesterol. A quintuple by-pass later I'm dong okay, The waist circumference is another story.

I think the main problem is simple arithmetic: many more calories are consumed than expended. That will lead to weight gain regardless of what you're eating.

Yeah, I asked my dad about that one time. He said that started to happen in the 1970s and got worse as the years went by.

I don't mind big portions at restaurants. I'm not interested in paying an arm and a leg for a tiny portion. It's on the consumers to either not eat out as much or watch what they eat the rest of the day if they do eat out

I don't have good restaurants in mind. I'm thinking more of diners, fast food and places like that.
