If more people exercise their Rights, police would be more inclined to treat them a bit more honorably. Let them force their way into my vehicle because they didn't like my answer. They'll find nothing, unless they put it there. That's why I have onboard cameras and front/rear cams that upload automatically to the cloud.

I've never felt obligated, but usually take the opportunity to talk as I would normally...

It isn't some stranger on the street. It's a policeman.

Cops may have any number of reasons to ask you questions without you needing to know why. Answer or don't. Don't makes you suspicious. You are the one in the spotlight, not the cop.

There's something that goes,"Cops see bad people in bad situations and good people at their worst. They suspect everyone and hope they're wrong."

They may be talking to checkout your clothes for bulges that shouldn't be there A gun? That's one right off.

Fluffing of a cop is stupid. A little arrogance for me being safe isn't that bad. He's under pressure every minute of his shift. Jeez, this is your biggest problem?

Bulges that shouldn't be there? Wow. That takes quite a lot of pressure off some people.

Having cameras on the off chance someone illegally searches you is... paranoid. Do you have crack under the seat, or something?

But let's have some fun with "If more people exercise their rights, police would be more inclined to treat them a bit more honorably."

No, they wouldn't. Literally everyone lies to the police when they have done something wrong (and then they fold within an hour of interrogation because they're idiots). The police have really no reason to trust anyone, and not answering question purely on principle is just stupid. Saying you have the right not to answer is true, but the people who actually do this tend to be pretty smug and passive-aggressive about it.

There is "exercising your legal rights" and there is "just being an $#@!". If a police officer stops you and asks if you are on vacation, just answer the goddamn question. If they start asking about weapons or drugs or arrests you then you absolutely should exercise your rights. The reason that we have rights in this country is not to just be an obstinate $#@! based on principle. They serve an important purpose and abusing them so that you can avoid answering basic, non-incriminating questions will likely produce a result that includes hostility.

If you want to be treated with courtesy, show some courtesy. If you don't want a police officer to get hostile, don't be passive-aggressively hostile with some bull$#@! behavior.

Well, if a person is so trusting as to talk to strangers with no degree of caution, IMO, that's nucking futs. I do not know the cops outside of my county, Even then, I gauge my responses. A cop I don't know is the same as a stranger on the street. In both cases, how can I be so sure that something deadlier is not afoot? It happens. Just because he has a badge is not a good indicator of human decency. It just means he has a badge. How he conducts himself is the best indicator, same as a stranger on the street. But, hey, that's just me.
The stranger on the street can change your life just a fast and bad as a cop. The wrong place, the wrong time.
I follow this advice: A low profile is no profile.
