I would think to ensure those whose names are there don't get to know the full extent of the evidence that Mueller has obtained.
If a sitting president can't be indicted, his family certainly can. Even if he pardons them, the evidence doesn't disappear.
And if Mueller is vindictive, he or others will get them all on tax evasion and it's no use saying there's no evidence because a leopard doesn't change his spots, so all of Trump's claims that it's a witch hunt will eventually bite him in the ass.

They may or may not have tax evasion issues. However the Trump family businesses are various corporations that have tax lawyers and tax accountants. These people prepared the taxes and would have had to affirm that they were correct (also the relevant corporation officer would sign as the taxpayer). Typically if the IRS finds issues with a corporate tax return they work with the lawyers and accountants to come to an understanding. Our tax code is extremely complicated and there are plenty of parts of it that are open to a wide latitude of interpretation. Tax lawyers and accountants are either aggressive with these or conservative with these.
