Snowflakes are hand wringers. That does not describe conservatives.
And they don't particularly care that some people misuse the term.

Peter, of course some conservatives are "hand wringers". I suspect that even some of the self-described conservatives on this forum would admit that such is the case. Contrary to what you might like to believe, not all conservatives are hardy, independent John Wayne types who never get their feelings hurt unnecessarily, never react with horror and dismay at the mere mention of something they don't want to hear about, and who have no sacred cows that cannot even be mentioned in less than a worshipful manner without their playing the victim card.
(Just as one timely example, I don't believe I have ever heard a single person become upset because a store clerk told them "Merry Christmas", though I'm sure such individuals exist. On the other hand, whenever the Holiday season approaches, forums like this one, along with talk radio call-in lines, are filled with people - yes - wringing their figurative hands and losing their collective sh*t over having been told "Happy Holidays".)
Believe me, I understand that the stereotyping is necessary for the proper herd bonding in places like this, but let's be completely honest, Peter. The history of Conservatism in the United States consists in large part of people who wanted to control what other people could read, see, say, smoke or do on the grounds that something offended them. At times those efforts have been reasonably well justified on the basis of public safety, but frequently they were nothing more than crusades to breed and enforce conformity of thought - conservative thought. Utilizing the full force of government to censor any ideas, words or images that threatened to offend the delicate sensibilities of some group of conservatives.
Do all conservatives want to ban, censor or eliminate things to which they take offense in a snowflakey fashion? Of course not. Are conservatives immune from that tendency? You know better.

True up to the last litle bit of misrepresentation for "something that offended them" would be a typical liberal reaction, liberals being morally relativistic and all.The history of Conservatism in the United States consists in large part of people who wanted to control what other people could read, see, say, smoke or do on the grounds that something offended them.
Here is a truer restatement of conservative, from Pornography and Censorship:
It's not viewed personally, subjectively, as a liberal might, but in terms of "family and religious values," of the "moral fabric of a decent and stable society," of a "a community's moral convictions."...According to conservatives, the sexually explicit content of pornography is an affront to decent family and religious values and deeply offensive to a significant portion of citizens who hold these values. The consumption of pornography is bad for society. It undermines and destabilizes the moral fabric of a decent and stable society, by encouraging sexual promiscuity, deviant sexual practices and other attitudes and behaviour that threaten traditional family and religious institutions, and which conservatives regard as intrinsically morally wrong. Furthermore, pornography is bad for those who consume it, corrupting their character and preventing them from leading a good and worthwhile life in accordance with family and religious values.
According to conservatives, the state is justified in using its coercive power to uphold and enforce a community's moral convictions and to prevent citizens from engaging in activities that offend prevailing community standards of morality and decency....
Society should not depend on the state but the state should depend on community values and morals.

It's remarkable - without being at all unexpected - how far some people will go in claiming that their particular ideological niche is immune from overreacting to things they find offensive, to the point of attempting to use the power of the state to shut something or someone down (or up). Prattle on as you will, guys - that you have snowflakes in your midst is the reality.
The forum member, for example, who is so bothered by the fact that someone dared to report what most folks have been aware of for years - that a trend toward fulfilling, in secular (in this case political) activities, some of the needs traditionally met by participation in organized religion - that he accuses those who point it out of "assaulting" him and his ostensible religious beliefs. My God, people - if that isn't a classic snowflakey reaction, I don't know what is.
By the way, @stjames1_53...we are still waiting for you to point out, exactly and specifically, what I wrote in this thread that constitutes - in your mind, if only there - my "mocking and assaulting someone else's religious beliefs".
