Senior senators on both sides of the aisle where left dumbfounded on Tuesday by President Trump’s fiery threat to partially shut down the government unless he gets the money he wants for a border wall, which is unlikely.
Republican leaders have spent weeks trying to steer the president away from a government shutdown, but all that work went out the window earlier in the day when Trump declared in front of television cameras that he would be “proud” to shut down the government over border security.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country,” Trump told Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) while cameras were still in the room before a scheduled meeting.

It's kind of of refreshing to see an elected official claim ownership of his positions, huh?

This sounds good to me. This time let's not pay the non-essential government workers. Let them go instead.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

It looks like we will have yet another so called Governmemt shut-down. Other than a coulple of national parks or monuments, I'm not quite sure what actually shuts down, but that's another issue.

Lets say the shut down does actually happen. What hardships do you expect to experience personally? Do you expect to survive if it lasts more than a few days? How did you survive that last ten or twelve shut-downs? Did any of the past shut-downs have a negative impact upon your life?

If this is such an issue, when will people ever demand that we quit funding government through the Continuing Resolution process?

If you are of the liberal persuasion, is this a big deal? If it is, why?
It has to last at least a month to have any effect at all. When people start missing paychecks, it hurts. When contractors do't get paid, it hurts. Both are dependent on the government. They can't go anyplace else.

It takes that long for welfare programs to stop. They will hurt then.

Yes, it will be on the heads of the Democrats. It's always Congress that takes the hit. Trump set them up today by calling Pelosi and Shumer out.

I do feel bad about the military. They have to work no matter. There is some relief for soldiers living on base but they are going to take a hit.

He's also your president whether you can accept that or not. Still do you expect to survive a government shut down?

True enough. It still won't help them while the government is shut down. What are they going to do? They don't have any other business usually.

A government shutdown is not the ominous, dreadful, black hole they want you to believe it is. Most people will go on about their daily lives as usual, nothing will change, not a bit. The last government shutdown lasted 3 days.

Here's a link that explains what happens in a government shutdown.

It was made perfectly clear today whose head this shutdown is going to fall on, Trump owned it. Do you realize that after the last 3 day government shutdown, they reached an agreement to pass a budget and 1.6 BILLION was in the budget for the border wall. Do you also realize that a mere 6% of that 1.6 billion was ever even used? No, I didn't think you knew that.

They can file for unemployment if the shutdown lasts over a month I think.
